Darkest of Days (2010)

Time traveling is almost an ideal theme for gaming implementation. Everyone can easily come up with hundreds of interesting features for such a project. In what era you can fly, what to change there, how to fight. And this is not an exaggeration, literally everyone. But the fact of the fact is that the developers, who are supposed to be on their job, do not create games about jumping into the past or the future. This theme emerges very rarely and does not show itself in the full power. Only some echoes of dashing ideas are reaching us. However, the 8Monkey Labs did not go around the bush but created the Darkest of Days, where the whole gameplay is built on.

Of course, Darkest of Days, sometimes it's even boring to shoot here, but for trying to show.

Story and gameplay

From the very beginning, we are drawn into a full-scale war in time. A group called the Opposition, which has hundreds of armed fighters is trying to change the course of history. It is important for two people. One is fighting on the fronts of the American Civil War, the other is fighting with the Germans in the ranks of the Russian army in World War I.

In total, the Darkest of Days has five epochs. The civil war in the United States, the Russian campaign of the First World War, the Second World War, the Great Sioux and Pompeii on the eve of the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius. Most of the time is devoted to the civil war in the United States and the First World War. Not the most interesting of the years for shooter games fans. Nevertheless, we participate in the large-scale historical battles, fly an airship, shooting dozens of enemies below us, grab important buildings and even change their uniforms a couple of times. We will play for both Russians and Germans, both for southerners and for northerners. From time to time, the Opposition is interfering in the actions, appearing in full combat layout from the future.

The other three campaigns are not so long, but each has its own advantages. The second world meets a beautiful snowfall, a large-scale rebellion in the concentration camp, riding on the truck and an abundance of automatic weapons. The Sioux Great War pleases the unusual opponents. Indians, who use arrows and spears in battle. Well, the two final levels in Pompeii show a large scale war of the two groups from the future in the style of modern Call of Duty. The battle takes place on the background of the ancient Roman city. The erupting of the volcano on the horizon bewitches, the legionaries fall under the crossfire of machine guns and the loss of both organizations. In fact, the grand finale, Pompeii, literally take the storm, capturing enemy fortifications, participating in brutal, street fighting and destroying automatic machine guns on buildings.
